Community Open Day
For the last five years, Hall For Cornwall has opened its doors and welcomed new audiences through the Community Club programme funded by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The Community Club has welcomed over 6,000 first time theatre-goers to the theatre, providing free and discounted tickets and events to those who have previously not had the opportunity to attend.
In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the programme, together with Hall For Cornwall’s 20th Birthday and the UK wide #LoveTheatreDay,we are holding a Community Open Day that promises to be a hattrick of festivities!
Join us for a FREE day of theatre for the all the family with workshops, creative activities and a showcase performance. Everyone is welcome to take part and there will be FREE Family Pack tickets up for grabs on the day for Hall For Cornwall’s ‘bewty’ of a Christmas show, Sleeping Beauty.
The doors will open at 10am with workshops as follows;
11am - midday: Stage Make-Up Class
Using this year’s Christmas Show Sleeping Beauty as our theme, learn the art of professional theatrical make-up and transform yourself or a partner into a dragon, prince or princess.
12noon - 1pm: Drumming Workshop
To celebrate Kneehigh’s Tin Drum on our stage in November, come and take part in a practical introduction to percussion instruments and drumming. Warning – it will be noisy!
1pm - 2pm : Bollywood Dancing
Ran by InspirAsian Dance, a professional Bollywood dance company based in Cornwall, come and join in a colourful, enigmatic and FUN workshop that will allow you to experience a little bit of Indian dance magic in Truro.
2pm - 3pm: Jive Dancing
If you want to know your Lindy from your Jitterbug, your Swing Out from your Charleston, then get on your bobby socks and join us for a lively introductory session to Jive.
5pm - 7pm: Community Showcase
Two hours of live performance from professional and community performers and companies who have supported or participated in Community Club activities over the years. Featuring Canvas Theatre, performing an excerpt from their current and critically acclaimed touring show, The Coastguard’s Daughter, along with performances from Shallal Dance Company, Truro Learning Academy, Continuum Dance Company and InspirAsian.
